Vijay Rupani Passes Away: Remembering a Humble Statesman

RR Team, June 14, 2025June 13, 2025

A Nation Mourns: Remembering Vijay Rupani’s Enduring Legacy

In a tragic turn of events, former Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani lost his life in the recent Ahmedabad air disaster. His untimely passing has left a deep void in Gujarat’s political landscape and in the hearts of countless citizens who saw in him a committed leader and a humble servant of the people.

On June 13, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his heartfelt condolences to Shri Rupani’s family. The two leaders shared not only a political affiliation but a decades-long journey together, working through challenging phases in Gujarat’s political history.

A Career Built on Dedication and Integrity

Vijaybhai Rupani, as he was fondly known, began his public life at the grassroots. From the Rajkot Municipal Corporation to serving as a Rajya Sabha MP, from being the President of the Gujarat BJP to a Cabinet Minister, every role he held was defined by his humility, efficiency, and ideological commitment.

In his tribute, PM Modi recalled:

“Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party’s ideology. He held various responsibilities in the Organisation and went on to serve diligently as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.”

Indeed, his tenure as CM between 2016 and 2021 was marked by policies focused on infrastructure development, public welfare, and enhancing the ease of living for citizens. From smart cities to health reforms, he laid the foundation for a modern and inclusive Gujarat.

A Personal Loss for PM Modi

The condolence shared by PM Modi on social media reflected a profound personal loss. He wrote:

“It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I’ve known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder… Will always cherish the interactions we had.”

These words show the emotional bond between two leaders who shared not just ideology but a vision for Gujarat and India.

A Humble Soul Remembered in Native Tongue

The PM also paid tribute in Gujarati, showing deep respect for the language and the regional roots of the departed leader. He remembered Vijaybhai as a man of simple nature who remained dedicated to service even as he rose through the political ranks.

“Vijaybhai was very hardworking and deeply committed to the party’s ideology… He took several steps to advance Gujarat’s development journey, with ‘Ease of Living’ being a notable highlight.”

These lines capture the essence of Rupani’s career—dedication, development, and discipline.

A Tragic End in Ahmedabad

The recent plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed Vijaybhai’s life has shaken the nation. The accident is under investigation, but the loss is already deeply felt across party lines and among the public.

The Legacy Lives On

Though Vijay Rupani is no longer with us, his vision and contributions will continue to inspire generations. His political journey—from a grassroots worker to the Chief Minister—embodied the strength of democratic leadership rooted in service.

As India observes this hour of grief, the values he lived by—sincerity, simplicity, and service—remain etched in public memory.
