Vice-President to Attend Atal Vajpayee Birth Centenary in Indore

RR Team, December 19, 2025December 19, 2025
Indore: Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan will visit Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on December 21, 2025, to take part in the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The visit underscores the continuing national efforts to commemorate the life and legacy of one of India’s most respected statesmen.

According to an official announcement issued by the Press Information Bureau, the Vice-President will attend the programme as the Chief Guest. The event is being organised by the Atal Foundation, a body dedicated to preserving and promoting the ideals and vision of Shri Vajpayee.

Centenary Celebrations Across the Country

The birth centenary of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is being observed across the country through lectures, cultural programmes, exhibitions, and public discussions highlighting his contributions to India’s political, social, and cultural life. These events aim to familiarise younger generations with Vajpayee’s values of democratic dialogue, national unity, and inclusive development.

Indore, one of Madhya Pradesh’s key cultural and political centres, has been chosen as an important venue for these commemorative activities. The city has a long tradition of hosting major national events and public intellectual discourse.

Vice-President’s Role at the Event

As the Chief Guest, Vice-President Radhakrishnan is expected to address the gathering and reflect on the enduring relevance of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ideas in contemporary India. Officials indicated that the address will focus on Vajpayee’s commitment to democratic institutions, consensus-building, and ethical public life.

The Vice-President’s participation adds constitutional significance to the celebrations, highlighting the importance attached by the state to remembering leaders who shaped modern India through dialogue and statesmanship.

Remembering Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served as Prime Minister of India for three terms, remains widely admired across party lines for his oratory skills, poetic sensibility, and ability to bridge ideological divides. His leadership during critical phases of India’s political and economic evolution left a lasting imprint on national policy and governance.

Beyond politics, Vajpayee was also known as a poet and thinker who believed strongly in freedom of expression and respectful debate. His speeches in Parliament are often cited as examples of civility and intellectual depth in public life.

Atal Foundation’s Initiative

The Atal Foundation, which is organising the Indore programme, has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at promoting good governance, nationalism rooted in constitutional values, and social harmony. Through seminars and commemorative events, the foundation seeks to keep Vajpayee’s philosophy relevant in changing times.

Organisers said the Indore event would bring together public representatives, scholars, students, and citizens to collectively reflect on Vajpayee’s legacy and its relevance for India’s future.

Security and Administrative Preparations

Given the Vice-President’s visit, local administration and security agencies in Indore are expected to make necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme. Standard protocols for VVIP visits will be followed to facilitate the event without disrupting public life.

Officials indicated that coordination between state authorities and the Vice-President’s Secretariat is underway to finalise logistical details.

National Significance of the Visit

The Vice-President’s presence at the birth centenary celebrations highlights the continuing national recognition of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s contribution to India’s democratic journey. Such events serve not only as tributes but also as platforms for dialogue on leadership, governance, and national values.
